Botox and Dysport Guide

Xeomin (incobotulinumtoxin A) is approved by the US FDA for the treatment of adults with moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows. Incobotulinumtoxin A is made from the bacteria that causes botulism. Botulinum toxin blocks nerve activity in the muscles, causing a temporary reduction in muscle activity. Xeomin has no additives, just botulinum toxin type A. This may mean that there is less risk of developing antibodies against Xeomin than other available neurotoxins. The body develops antibodies in response to a foreign invader and attacks. In theory, antibodies could prevent a neurotoxin from having its desired effects. The effects of Xeomin occur within one week, and the results last from three to six months, making it comparable to Botox in terms of both onset and duration of action.

BOTOX® is a neuromodulator that temporarily relaxes the muscle at the point where it was injected in order to prevent the muscle contraction that is causing the wrinkle and fold. Botox should be used as a preventative measure for fine lines and wrinkles and is recommended to start in your early 20s. Botox lasts 3 months and it takes 2 weeks to get the full effect after it has been injected.

Dysport is a smaller molecule neuromodulator that gets in the muscle faster and has a quicker onset than any of the other neuromodulators on the market. Most people start to notice the effects after only 4 days. Dysport has more active neurotoxin per dose compared to other neuromodulators therefore it is longer lasting (more concentrated). Please advise that Dysport dose is different than the other neuromodulators therefore you need 3 units of Dysport to equal 1 of Botox.
